Khartoum 9-22-2022 (SUNA) – Minister of Finance and Economic Planning, Dr. Gabriel Ibrahim, revealed a government tendency to support microfinance in the agricultural sector, in a way that contributes to strengthening the government’s goals to achieve food security and achieve the strategic goal of making Sudan the food basket of the region and the world’s food basket.
During his address today at Corinthia Hotel, the minister stressed the consultative workshop between the partners of the production process and microfinance companies that jointly finance grain and grain crops. To support the agricultural sector by providing the required financial resources and addressing the causes of the high cost of production.
For his part, the General Manager of (Al-Fal) Al-Khidr Al-Amin said that Irada, Azm and (Al-Fal) companies are among the biggest followers of microfinance, which contributes to increasing employment rates, opening job opportunities and reducing unemployment.
We aim to finance 7% of the total wheat production and bear the government’s burden in the settlement of wheat, said Ammar Abbas, director of Irada, adding that we support the encouraging policies of the microfinance sector.
The representative of the farmers revealed the contribution of microfinance to the stability of more than ten million farmers, in addition to the contribution to the cultivation of 110,000 feddans in the White Nile State.
Sufian Al-Nama, head of a cooperative society in the Gezira project, confirmed their complete dependence on microfinance to finance farmers instead of government funding through the Agricultural Bank, calling for the provision of production inputs at the international price.
