The “Press Unit List” announced the nomination of journalist (Abdel-Moneim Abu Idris) for the position of head of the Sudanese Journalists Syndicate. The “Press Unit List” includes the bodies of the Democratic Assembly of Sudanese Journalists, the Independent Professional List and the Women Journalists Entity.
In a statement, the “Press Unit List” said: “In order to re-establish a Sudanese Journalists Syndicate that meets the aspirations, longings and struggles of Sudanese journalists for more than three decades to restore the Sudanese Journalists Syndicate, aware of the historical, delicate and critical situation in the country and the journalism profession and the current national and professional challenges, Recognizing the importance and need of the journalistic community for real unity between the parties that believe in the establishment of a professional union committed to protecting and defending public freedoms and supporting the legitimate aspirations of the Sudanese people in a civil and democratic state, based on what was previously mentioned, representatives of the (Democratic Gathering of Sudanese Journalists) and the (Professional List) met The Independent Professional List) and the entity of female journalists in a series of continuous and continuous meetings that dealt with the position on the elections of the Sudanese Journalists Syndicate during the period from 17-19 August 2022 AD. And to the masses of the Sudanese people and their civil and live forces in support of the civil democratic transition, they reached an agreement to run for the elections of the Sudanese Journalists Syndicate on a single joint list under the name of the Press Unity List.
She added: “The Sudanese Journalists Syndicate is an independent professional union that defends the interests of its members, protects them, and promotes and develops the profession. Preparing an electoral program that accompanies the founding role of the Syndicate Council, which is scheduled to be elected on September 1, 2022 AD, through axes that include professional, service and national issues. General principles of representation:
(1) The full commitment of any of the candidates to support the civil democratic transition and reject, resist and oppose any totalitarian or dictatorial tendency.
(2) Representation of female journalists by not less than a quarter of the seats.
(3) Inclusion of representation for the various professional sectors.
(4) Efficiency.
(5) Harmony.
(6) Not limiting the nomination to male/female candidates in the state of Khartoum, and expanding representation to include male/female representatives from some states.
The joint list confirmed agreement on a list of male/female candidates, in which female journalists will be represented by at least a quarter of the seats. She also urged the press base to advance this time and complete this long journey with the last step and the remaining task to achieve its legitimate dreams of establishing the Sudanese Journalists Syndicate, by all scrambling towards the ballot boxes or electronic voting on the first of September to say their word and put their mark on history, and to witness together and together the birth and establishment of the Sudanese Journalists Syndicate long overdue.
